C45 The Ackleton Amendment (70.46km) 12

July 4, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

This week we’re spreading the B joy in a northerly direction as we head for a cafe of singular excellence. The route is similar to the Pattingham Torc which we rode a couple of months ago. This version (amendment) removes some of the sketchy lanes we discovered that day, and doubtless will replace them with others.

SSC for the depart as usual, heading out through Kidderminster to Kinver. Some remaining ‘interesting’ surfaces and holes towards Bobbington and Claverley. There’s a nice little climb at Ludstone Hall that will test the legs before the run in to the cafe.

The return drops down past Patshull Hall and through the village of Ackleton (no, you probably haven’t heard of it, much less been there). There’s a few lumps and bumps as we head south through Worfield and a short section of main road before turning off past the Cider House pub. A further amendment eschews the lanes around the Sheepwalks to drop to Alveley and across Romsley. After Shatterford we head into the metropolis via a descent of Jacob’s Ladder and the split point by the police station.

Some climbing, steep in parts but nothing that a good gear selection and a bit of effort won’t conquer. Some lanes may have potholes, keep those eyes peeled. Beware newly dressed roads. Batfield lane into Alveley has been done recently though should be perfectly rideable by now. Remember spares and appropriate clothing.
