Cyclo-cross

A number of Wyre Forest club members take part in local cyclocross races, which typically run from September through to the end of January. Cyclocross is a brilliant way of maintaining fitness throughout the winter months and improving bike handling skills and events cater for all ages with club members racing from U6 through to veteran categories. Cyclocross is particularly great for families with many events featuring the whole family racing throughout the day and they are a really good, fun and safe way, to introduce younger riders to competitive events. Last year the club had riders as young as 4 competing on balance bikes in the local U6 cyclocross league.

Locally most club members take part in the West Midlands Cyclocross League (WMCCL) organised events and the club hosts its own round at the Shelsley Walsh venue.

Whilst you don’t have to be registered for the League to try a West Midlands event you will need to register in order to qualify for league ranking points and a position when entry opens in July. Details are posted on the league website and Facebook page. www.wmccl.co.uk

Members also take part in the Notts and Derby Cyclocross League, NorthWest Cyclocross League, Welsh Cyclocross League and the British Cycling National Series and details are available through British Cycling Events Page. www.britishcycling.org.uk/events
