‘Sunday, Muddy Sunday!’ sang those famous Irish cyclists, the U2’s. ‘I can’t believe the forecast today, Oh, I can’t close my eyes and make it go away‘ The rain may be a major factor in this event if the weather forecast is accurate so, in true B ride tradition, I have amended the route slightly to avoid some lanes that might not fare too well in the mud/tarmac/pothole ratio calculation.
It’s a familiar ride to most of the crew featuring the excellent Cafe 212 in Wombourne, scene of many a warm welcome over the last few years. The first half includes a stiff measure of climbing to get the legs working, Jacob’s Ladder and Batfield Lane will likely create some verbal abuse and grunting on our way to the cafe. The return follows wider roads to avoid the narrow lanes that feature in the original route. Be aware that may mean a higher frequency of cars. I would suggest riders ride with lights if the weather is as poor as expected. Let’s hope we end up sweating in 25° heat instead.
As ever, it will be great to have you all along on the adventure as we share the greatest pastime known to Bono.
The planned split point is at the end of Marlpool Lane.
