Bio
Hi! I’m Kara and I lead quite a busy life fitting in training, full time work, being a mum & wife, housework and all-important rest & recovery. Trying to fit in three sports into a week is certainly a challenge but where there is a will there’s a way! I am also a keen horse rider and have ridden for many years and owned by own in the past, unfortunately there really is a limit to what I can fit into a week these days so don’t do it as much as I used to. As a teenager I took part in long distance raft races and represented Great Britain in dragon boating at the European Championships where we won 2 silvers and a bronze in the three race distances.
I took up running in 2015, having never done it before as a cheap way to start getting fit and enjoying some time to focus on myself after having my first child. It took a long time of gradual build up before I can say I enjoyed running but I do now. I’ve completed 5 Wolf runs which are tough but lots of fun. Following those I challenged myself to complete a half marathon which I did at Bath in 2016 and the following year my challenge was a triathlon, despite the fact I couldn’t swim front crawl and found cycling uncomfortable. Trying a road bike and investing in a saddle that fit me worked wonders and cycling soon became my favourite discipline – I rode the inaugural Velo Birmingham (100miles) in 2017 which says a lot to how comfortable I find cycling now! Having some one-to-one sessions on front crawl really helped me and now there is no stopping me in the pool.
Looking forward to the future I am aiming to improve my sprint distance times and have a go at Olympic distance, incorporating open water. In the mean time I hope to be able to help some new athletes find their confidence and achieve their goals.
