WFCRC is now providing more opportunities for members to enjoy each other’s company on road or trail than ever before. There’s a lot going on now so here is a a guide to all of it in one place:
Sunday:
Three club rides usually take place on a Sunday morning – The Sunday Pedallers, The Sunday Social and The Gravel Pedallers. The routes for all three are posed on the club’s Facebook page several days ahead of time, are led by WFCRC members and offer varying degrees of difficulty, elevation gain, average pace and types of terrain. Rides normally start at 0900 from the club but do occasionally vary, in which case details will be posted with the route. All three feature a cafe stop around halfway, utilising a wide choice of excellent refreshment venues.
Tuesday:
The all-new Tuesday Gravel Club commences April 22nd. This is a companion to the long-established Thursday evening ride but which takes in a variety of multi-surface routes including gravel, towpath, forest fire roads, little-used rural paths, greenways and bits of tarmac to link everything together. Suitable for gravel and MTB machines, assisted or manual. Routes are posted on Facebook ahead of time. Expect the unexpected!
Thursday:
The Thursday evening road rides have been running for years and offer a post-work opportunity to whizz round the network of rural lanes that surround us at whatever speed seems appropriate to the rider. A different route every week throughout the summer, everything from approx 16 to 30 miles, sometimes including a pub stop when there is enough light. Again, the routes are posted on Facebook before the event.
The Tuesday and Thursday evening rides run until there isn’t enough light to complete the route in daylight.
In addition to the above, there is an unofficial group ride (the Midweek Pedallers) which usually meets on a Tuesday and Thursday at 1000 through the year, weather permitting. Obviously this is mostly for those unencumbered by work but obviously any WFCRC member is very welcome to join if they have the opportunity.
Finally, the combined ‘Pedallers group runs a number of ‘Big Days Out‘ through the summer in which they take on longer rides, typically 75-130 miles. Some start from the club and some elsewhere, notably in Wales. Full details of these will be posted on the club’s Facebook page ahead of time. These are not official club rides but any WFCRC member is very welcome to join them.
Enjoy your cycling summer with WFCRC!
