It was another busy week of racing for the club with a mix of adult and youth riders competing across a range of events, including crit racing at Stourport and Shrewsbury, track league at Halesowen and road racing on the Redmarley course in Gloucestershire.
On Tuesday the 15th May Wyre Forest hosted the second round of the Stourport Summer Series and this was the undoubted highlight of the week with an outstanding team effort from Samuel Jones and Jono Goulding in the mens 3/4 criterium race which resulted in a Wyre Forest win from Jono and an excellent 8th position from Sam who continue his strong stat to the season. Sam provided the perfect lead out for Jono to launch a strong sprint up the home straight and win the race with enough time to spare to perfect photo finish pose just in time for inclusion on the new club website much to Tim Tranter’s delight.
As always a special thanks to both Mike Haddon and the familiar faced volunteers who helped to put on another excellent club event.
Gloucester RR and Sundorne Circuit
On Sunday 20th May 3 Wyre Forest riders travelled to the Gloucester City road race, a category 3/4 race on a rolling Redmarley circuit with a finish up the Hollybush climb. Unfortunately Matt Boazman had a mechanical within the first 5 minutes which ended his race early on but it was another good ride from Samuel Jones and James Duncan in hot and tough race conditions with both riders finishing in the bunch.
On the same day a number of youth and junior riders were also racing at Sundorne, Shrewsbury, in the Mid Shropshire Wheelers Sunday Circuit series round 3. It was another strong performance from all the Wyre Forest riders with a particularly notable ride from Charlie Genner, still relatively early into his racing career, but picking up a superb 6th place in the U16 Boys race. Elsewhere Max Hinds continued with his great form to finish in 4th place in the U12 boys race and Jayden Cook put in a great effort to finish 6th in the U8 Boys event.
On the track three club riders have been competing in the first two rounds of the Friday Night Track League at Halesowen- Posie and Felix Forrester and Alex Brown. We will post the full track league race results when they are compiled by HA&CC but after the first two events it has been a particularly good start to the league from Alex Brown who currently lies in second place in the league.
