After an abscence of two years Cosford Airshow returns and so does our ever popular ride out to get an appropriate aviation fix whilst picnicking in a summer field.

The display starts around midday but the actual timetable is based on flying rules rather than the clock so we could end up seeing anything in any order. (We’re unable to make specific requests without hefty financial input).

The ride departs from Kidderminster SVR station at 10am and follows a familiar route through Kinver and Claverley before reaching a supermarket in Albrighton where comestibles can be purchased.

We then wend our way past roadblocks to our secret viewing spot overlooking the airfield. The view of the airfield is a little restricted but most of the display flying takes planes directly above us. The big jets and Red Arrows get up close and personal and things can get a little loud. Bring earplugs if this sort of thing may affect you.

There is no prescribed time for the stop and departure is taken on consensus. It’s usually at least an hour watching the show before we depart. The return leg follows a tried and trusted optimal route looping around higher ground to further facilitate views of the planes, but at an increasing distance.

The southerly leg comes back through Pattingham, Swindon and Kinver into our locale.

Lots of potential fun and banter and cake with the added bonus of strange locals, what’s not to like?
