E124 As You Like It (167.83km) 9

April 23, 2022 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Join us, if you will, for the first big B Ride of the year as we take on a nice and easy century ride around the counties of Worcestershire, Warwickshire and Gloucestershire. This will be a clockwise running of a tried and tested route which has been curated to avoid climbing as much as possible. This has proved to be an ideal ride for people to achieve their first 100 mile ride in the company of more experienced riders.

Starting at Kidderminster SVR Station 8am sharp the route takes us on a cross country run via Wychbold and Astwood Bank and spits us out in Stratford upon Avon (58km) where we have our first planned stop. There is a surfeit of cafes and shops to refuel and refill before embarking on stage two. Following some A and B roads we head SW through beautiful scenery past Broadway towards our second planned stop in Tewkesbury (114km). Again we rest and refill for stage three, a steady run back through the shire of Worcester vis Droitwich back to Kidderminster.

This was planned from the outset to be a ‘No-Drop’ ride. We set the pace to the slowest rider. If you’re planning to join us please ensure you have done some adequate training prior to the event. If you have managed a 60+ mile ride at around 12-14mph average then you should be ok with the extra distance. As with all long rides there are possiblities for rider/bike repatriation in the event of serious mechanicals. There are railway stations at Stratford and Ashchurch (Tewkesbury) with links to Kidderminster should the need arise. Each rider is responsible for their own bike and should ensure that it is in good order with tools and spares carried. Do not rely on others. We will do everything possible as a group to repair and assist but will be limited by what we carry ourselves.

There are limited places to stop on stage one and two so ensure you carry enough food and drink to last these legs. Each leg is around 56km, or 33 miles in old money.

Ensure you have the correct route loaded from the link below.

As I mentioned before this is not a race nor time trial but a social ride of considerable distance where we wait for others to catch up as necessary. We all want to get around the whole route safely in the company of like minded riders. Being dropped on such a long ride is off putting to a rider, offer a wheel when possible as it all helps.

I’ve estimated a ride time of around 8-9 hours including stops. It may be quicker or slower depending on who turns up so expect to be back around late afternoon for a celebratory pint (or multiples thereof) in the King & Castle and to bask in the achievement of a landmark distance completed.

You know you want to do it so get your bike ready, get stocked up and get ready to pedal. Hopefully the weather will be ace but we can assure you the company will be, regardless.

As the Bard himself said. “We know what we are, but not what we may B Ride.”
