B162 Gatacre (65.02km) 15

August 22, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

As we forever push the envelope of B ride experience, new excitement and challenges await. Masters of our own handlebars steering us toward pastures new.

Nobody likes doing the same routes week in week out and this jaunt is no exception. Brand new for the post Covid apocalypse is this local route featuring a visit to the first local Cyclocross race of the season.

The route comes out of SSC and up through Kidderminster. It features one or two climbs but not much distance, hence the 15 route grading. (It would actually be a 12/13 if it was longer).

The first up of note is Kingsford Lane as we head north through Kinver. It loops around Enville Common and past the airfield at Bobbington as we head down quite lanes towards Alveley. General bumps and grades may be evidenced in this section.

Crossing the river at the country park we climb up Barke Street into Highley. The cyclocross venue is then about a mile down the road.

The return is a simple drag up to Kinlet and back via the forest to Bewdley.

At the venue there will be a coffee/cake trader and toilet facilities*. If it is inclement weather we can make the cafe stop a bit further back at the Country Park Visitor Centre where indoor seating is available. We can choose on the day. For those with a particular dietary need there are a couple of small supermarkets in Highley which will have a greater selection.

This certainly won’t be a rush ride. It will take skills and consideration when tackling some of the quieter lanes. Think about bike/tyre choice before you start. It shows tarmac on the map but prepare to find it missing in places.
