COVID-19 Club statement Previous item Circuit Booking NOW LIVE! Next item Race results- January and...

Dear Club Members

As promised I am updating on the latest situation now British Cycling and Cycling Time Trials have both updated their advice following last night announcements regarding coronavirus.

As stated yesterday the circulation of the Covid-19 coronavirus is sadly progressing as predicted and we should expect to see a much more rapid increase in the number of cases.

As a result the Prime Minister and governments Chief Scientific Officer and Chief Medical Officer have announced that we must now move to greater social distance measures and avoid all non-essential contact and stop unnecessary group meetings.

Today British Cycling confirmed the suspension of all BC sanctioned activities, including racing, recreational rides and education courses until at least 30 April.

This includes (but is not limited to):

-Competitive events at all levels
-Non-competitive, registered events (e.g. sportives, reliability trials)
-Recreational rides (throughout our suite of programmes including HSBC UK Breeze, HSBC UK Guided Rides, HSBC UK Ride Social, Let’s Ride Pop-up)
-All educational courses or activities (e.g. coaching courses, Ride Leader courses, commissaire courses)

Cycling Time Trials have also issued similar advice and have taken the decision to suspend all CTT events, (this includes all Type A and Type B events), with immediate effect up to and including Sunday 31 May 2020.

With that in mind we have taken the decision as a club to cancel all organised club sessions, including youth and senior coaching, turbo training and club organised social events as it is not appropriate to conduct and organise these given the explicit national advice.

We have obviously decided to cancel our planned youth circuit race on the 4th April and will look to rearrange when the advice changes.

As I am sure you will have probably seen Stourport Sports Centre have also confirmed the closure of SSC until further notice.

It is clear that online platforms are not for everyone and and can never replicate the pleasure of either racing or going on a group ride with one another as friends and fellow club members. However we will be looking at what ‘group events’ we can organise via
Zwift, particularly for youth sessions to try and maintain some degree or normality in unusual times. We will provide some further information on this as soon as we have worked out some practicalities.

I will continue to keep members updated as things evolve. In the meantime look after one another.

Dear Club Members

This evening, we heard the news that the circulation of the Covid-19 coronavirus is sadly progressing as predicted and we should expect to see a much more rapid increase in the number of cases.

As a result the Prime Minister and governments Chief Scientific Officer and Chief Medical Officer have announced that we must now move to greater social distance measures and avoid all non-essential contact and stop unnecessary group meetings.

With that in mind we have taken the decision as a club to cancel a number of organised club sessions, including youth and senior coaching, turbo training and club organised social events as it is not appropriate to conduct and organise these given the explicit national advice.

We will separately be making a decision over the course of this week about our race calendar and I fully expect new guidance to be issued by British Cycling and Cycling Time Trials either tomorrow or Wednesday in response to the national advice. However, based on the expected timescales of spread nationally I expect further social distancing measures to potentially be introduced and this is highly likely to mean that our April youth circuit race will be cancelled. I will of course update people as that becomes clearer and also if BC or CTT issue new guidance.

I have also been contacted by Stourport Sports Club (SSC) today and they are likely to announce that they will be closing the centre for a period of time – we will of course communicate that to club members as soon as it is confirmed by the SSC team.

This is obviously a rapidly evolving situation and we will try to keep members updated as new information emerges or if the situation changes.
