Introduction
Over the past few years Wyre Forest CRC have embarked on a mission to introduce youngsters to the sport via British Cycling's Go-Ride scheme and to train up Club Members as British Cycling qualified coaches and Club Welfare Officers. As so, in 2005 the club registered a Go-Ride club and began a Coaching Education Program, thus beginning the process of attaining Clubmark Status. In April 2008 the club finally achieved Clubmark.
Clubmark
Clubmark was introduced in 2002 by Sport England and is a cross-sport quality accreditation for clubs with junior sections. National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of sport (ours is British Cycling) award Clubmark to proven high quality clubs that have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to the clubmark standard and have met a minimum set of criteria. Clubmark clubs must have an ongoing coaching programme for its members and hold regular coaching sessions for youngsters within the club or via links with local schools setup during the accreditation process. Clubmark criteria ensures a Child Protection policy within the club is mandatory and that Welfare Officers are trained and attend training sessions. Sports Equity and Ethics and standards of Club Management and Governance are also major areas of the accreditation process the club must adhere to.
What is Go-Ride?
Go-Ride is the Clubmark scheme, developed by British Cycling, to introduce youngsters to Cycling. Typically, it involves clubs, such as Wyre Forest, running sessions for kids which encourage them to have fun on a bike, trying mini-versions of the sport, working on their skills and learning them how to handle a bike correctly via skills tests. The sessions may be run as part of a school curriculum or independently by the club.
Go-Ride Coaches Our coaches have undergone extensive training and appraisals by British Cycling. They are all required to be qualified First Aiders
